"Walk before Me and be thou perfect".
"Walk Before Me And Be Thou Perfect"...
Genesis 17:1-10.
Genesis 17:1-2-"And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said unto him, I Am the Almighty God; walk before me and be thou perfect". And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. What a covenant of life also in eternity with God!
God told Abraham to walk before Him and be perfect, meaning love My will, live in my will, do my will and bidding, be obedient, remain faithful and loyal.
Be thou perfect, also means live holy which implies live for Me alone, let Me be Your focus, let Me the at the center of your heart. No distractions, no looking back and no compromise.
Perhaps this was Abraham prominent challenge he had with God, as human as he is, was not always easy for him.
Another thing striking in verse ten is that, he was asked to be circumcised. This was a huge cross for Abraham to do in his old age not even as a child.
And God understood this and knew it's only Him that can help and fit him in.
And He came in the flesh to repeat this word in another dimension, in the book of - Matthew 16:24-25 - "If any man will come after Me, let him take up His cross, and follow Me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it".
This is also a covenant and promise to His faithful saints like Abraham. Who are ready to be circumcised at heart at His cross.
God has to train you to love His perfect will, you cannot love and do His will by your natural strength because, His will is divine and supernatural, that can never be loved by the flesh.
You will have to go through so many failures, mistakes, errors blunders and other unpleasant experiences e.g. like reasoning Him to reason your way out after much fruitless effort to love and do His will and in trying to fit in.
It is when you have used your last effort, strength and zeal to, and no more, this is when God steps in to help you, engrace and enable you to be properly fitted in, to fulfill destiny and purpose.
But at the Cross of Christ for our heart to be circumcised and we must be broken to be able to love, do and be in His perfect will. Most importantly for our unending benefit.
